A Smithville based food bank is getting a spring boost with two major events that will raise money and help restock the agency’s shelves.

Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign has moved from its usual fall timing to a spring date. In Smithville proceeds from the cookie sales, which runs from May 1 to 7, will support WLCC.

The goal this year is to raise $25,000 after last year’s Smile Cookie week brought in just over $20,000 for the agency.

Money raised will help with its various programs, which includes: food assistance, emergency assistance, housing assistance, children’s activity subsidy, dental assistance, mental health counselling, financial coaching, income tax clinics, holiday hampers and more.

“The support from the West Lincoln community allows us to help our neighbours through difficult times,” said Sharlene Volpatti, manager of client services and the food bank at WLCC.

Anyone wanting to volunteer for the Smile Cookie campaign can register to do so by clicking here.

Additionally, the Kids Care Food Drive takes place Saturday, May 6. An annual event hosted by the Felvus family, volunteers will be going door to door to pick up non-perishable food donations. Households in Smithville are asked to have their donations set out by 10 a.m. Donation bags were sent out in the April 27 edition of the Grimsby Lincoln News.

Donations can also be made directly at WLCC. Anyone interested in volunteering can email [email protected].
