St. Catharines, Ontario – The 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23, and Under 19 Championships (Mega Worlds) proudly announces a partnership with FEED Niagara, a local organization dedicated to stopping hunger in the Niagara Region through its network of 10 food banks.

This collaboration extends across multiple events leading up to and during the Championships, including the Barenaked Ladies Concert on April 25 and the Oar-some Summer Golf Tournament on June 21. At these events, attendees and participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the fight against hunger by donating non-perishable food items and financial support. FEED Niagara will play a central role in organizing these efforts, ensuring that every donation makes a meaningful impact in the community.

At the heart of this collaboration is the presence of FEED Niagara at the Mega Worlds Fan Festival during the Championships week. Taking place from August 21-24 at Rennie Park, the Mega Worlds Fan Festival in support of FEED Niagara will leverage the power of sport to drive positive social change, providing an opportunity for attendees to make a tangible difference while enjoying the excitement of the Championships.

The opportunity to partner with the St. Catharines World Rowing Organization and Sport Niagara for the 2024 World Rowing Championships is very exciting.” said Paula Barrett, Manager of FEED Niagara.  “The World Rowing Championships and the events leading up to them, offer a great platform to spread awareness about food insecurity in Niagara and how it is impacting our neighbours”.

“As we gear up to host the Mega Worlds, we’re committed to making a difference in our community,” said Bill Schenck, Chair of St. Catharines World Rowing. “Partnering with FEED Niagara is our way of ensuring that the excitement of the championships isn’t just about the competition, but about coming together as a community to support those in need.”

In addition to our collaboration with FEED Niagara, we are grateful for the support of our community partners – FirstOntario Credit Union, Alectra, and CAA Niagara. Their commitment to the event’s  Food Program demonstrates a shared dedication and commitment to creating a positive impact in the fight against hunger by promoting sustainable food practices and ensuring access to food for the members of our community.

“Over the years, FirstOntario has been a proud supporter of international and national events that Niagara region has hosted and we’re looking forward to seeing some of the best rowers compete in this summer’s competition,” said Lloyd Smith, CEO, FirstOntario Credit Union. “What makes this partnership even more meaningful is the attention organizers have placed on addressing food insecurity in the region, which is a key focus area for our organization and we’re pleased to extend our involvement through this world class event.”
